The Independence Public Library feels that teens are an important faction of our community and should make many opportunities available to them. At a time when many young adults begin to read less and less, the public library is extremely important.
We are excited about having a safe and inviting place for teens. The library has a special teen area with a study area, a reading/visiting area in a sunken center location, and an audio-visual area.
Independence Teen Advisory Board (iTAB)
There is an Independence Teen Advisory Board with teens helping to plan events and outreach programs. If you are interested in joining the Teen Advisory Board, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The library offers young adult materials in several formats. Fiction and graphic novels are specifically available for teens. The teen non-fiction materials are combined with the adult non-fiction to make a wider selection for both age groups. There are also magazines, audio books, and DVDs available for checkout. Click here to see what titles, topics, and authors are available.
If you like to download audiobooks or ebooks, check out our BRIDGES program for free book downloads.
15 desktop computers and 6 laptop computers are available for public use in the library. A valid library card in good standing is required to use the equipment.
In addition to the teen area, there are study rooms available. Teens are able to check these out for meeting with small groups or for quiet study.
Some of the programs offered for teens are games and Interactive events, special presentations, and the summer reading program. See below to find out what teen programs will be coming soon.
