City of Independence Financial Transparency Portal

In an effort to provide a more inclusive and transparent budget, the City of Independence is pleased to present our Financial Transparency portal.  The City of Independence has partnered with OpenGov to provide a new web-based financial transparency and intelligence tool that dynamically presents the city's revenues and expenses, from historical trends to line item level details.

OpenGov

The City of Independence is offering an interactive reporting tool that allows citizens to explore the City of Independence's budget data online in various graphical formats selected by the user.  Click here to be taken to the City of Independence's Financial Transparency Portal.  Instructions on how to navigate the data are included via the "How To" tab at the top of the web page, and below are some tips on how to use the OpenGov platform.

Tips for using the Financial Transparency Portal
  • The title of the chart or graph you are viewing is located at the top of the page.
  • OpenGov allows you to explore budget and historical finances in a simple graphical user interface.
  • There are five different types of visual representations of the data: a stacked percentage graph to see changes over time, a stacked line graph to visualize overall trends over time, a line graph overlaying each trend over time, a pie chart to view percentage breakdowns by year, and a bar chart to compare trends and percentage breakdowns.
  • There is a Fiscal Year slider below the Filtered By menu on the left side of the screen to choose the fiscal year(s) of data you would like to see.
  • Below any chart or graph, you can view a table detailing the financial information in the graph above.
  • If you have any questions or comments, you may send them to the City via the Help menu located at the top right of the screen; there are instructions on how to send an email to City staff in the drop down menu.
