OBOI: Tour of Historic Homes


What is the Tour of Historic Homes?
The library is collaborating with the Buchanan County Historical Society for this opportunity.  Tour five beautiful private homes and the Lee Mansion in Independence as part of the One Book One Independence (OBOI) programming. Find information about the homes and the required event registration below.

The OBOI 2017 book selection 
Arrowood,by Laura McHugh, is set in one of the grand historical homes that line the Mississippi River in southern Iowa. 

How can I register for the event?
Registration is required for the tour. To reserve your spot, contact the library at 319-334-2470, email, or stop in. 

Between March 19-26, you can pick up your "Passport" to Historic Independence at the library, or you can get it on March 26, the day of the tour, at the Lee Mansion. Hang on to your passport and bring it to each home as your ticket to enter. 

Is there an admission charge?
Admission is free, just remember to register and pick up your passport.  Free will donations are encouraged, and there will be an opportunity to donate at each home. Funds raised will be split 50/50 between the library and the Historical Society and will go towards OBOI 2018 and the Lee Mansion, respectively.
